A Reason to Not Hate the Media
A lot of my old posts have been about how all of us are at risk of something bad due to media. It has been about how hackers could use your information against you, or happy your keystrokes are being tracked by companies. All of that sounded very menacing, putting media, specifically the internet, in bad light. I would like to address that there are good things with the media as well. I am pretty sure that we have all heard about Trump's recent firing of the FBI director, and how he is displeased with the media coverage, so what not get rid of them? This is the very reason I like media.
At its center, media is supposed to connect us to information and to people, to improve our communication, especially the communication of information. This is an example of media at its finest. From the news of Comey's termination to Trump's reaction to the press, this is all how it is supposed to work. The spread of information is fast and efficient and people know about what is going on. That makes them informed, and gives them the ability to act. The reaction Trump got from the nation was one he was not wanting. He blamed the media for that reason as well, so his response was why not end press conferences. This is what keeps him in check. When you have the White House throwing out alternative facts, a President who does not care about accuracy, it is the media that is there to balance this all out. The media is the equalizer in this situation.
The media is the equalizer in this situation because it is their job to report the news, and to check for accuracy and report the facts. They inform the people of what is going on, and in this case what the President is doing. With the media reporting the what is going on, and checking the facts being given, the people are able to respond. They are able to keep the President in check by voicing their reaction to the things he is doing. That is what is good with media. Sure, you have people trying to sell you stuff, you have people tracking you and your information, but you also have the ability to be informed. Like I said media is a two way mirror where people can look into your life, but you can look into everyone else's life and the life outside of yours. That ability is crucial. Being informed is great, it is key to any successful society. Intelligent people with accurate intelligence is key. For the most part, most media is accurate, but the people do not know how to process it.
The media in this case is what keeps Trump on his toes. Not because they attack him, but because they keep the people informed and the people react to him. The people being informed about what he does and the lies he tells is what gets him into trouble. The media, for the most part reports on what he does throwing in commentary and analysis as well. The media is the one thing that we have to keep Trump in check. If he wants to come out and say lies, spout of all the alternative facts he knows, act behind the people's back, then the media better be ready to report on everything he does to the people because the people will have something to say about it. The people interacting with media is very important in this case. This is media at its finest.
